This half term, our children have been busy taking part in a wide range of exciting and creative learning experiences across the curriculum.
In Art and Design & Technology, pupils have enjoyed a variety of adult-led activities. They explored colour by creating beautiful Arctic landscape artwork and designed their own musical shakers. Working collaboratively, the children also built an impressive igloo using recycled milk bottles and boxes. This inspired imaginative role play, with children pretending to be Inuits – and even Mr Catherall joined in the fun!
Our outdoor learning continues to be a real highlight. The children have shown fantastic imagination as they apply their learning outside, taking part in dancing and singing performances, practising number composition to five, and role-playing real-life scenarios such as traffic lights and zebra crossings. These activities help reinforce key mathematical concepts in meaningful and engaging ways.
In Mathematics, pupils have been developing their skills using a classroom working wall, which supports them in practising and revisiting their learning. We also make full use of the outdoor environment to apply mathematical knowledge in practical and enjoyable contexts.
We have been particularly impressed with progress in Phase 2 phonics, especially the children’s enthusiasm for writing. Their letter formation is improving well, and we encourage continued practice at home to build confidence and fluency.
This week, the children also began learning about Chinese New Year. We were delighted to welcome Eliza’s mum, who visited to share how her family celebrates the festival. She taught the children how to count to ten in Chinese and kindly gifted each child a traditional “Happy wallet” with a golden coin inside. This was a lovely and memorable experience that enriched the children’s understanding of different cultures.
It has been a wonderful half term full of creativity, collaboration and curiosity, and we are very proud of everything the children have achieved.
