Today, Acre Hall Primary School was proud to support The Toy House with their Paediatric Emergency First Aid for Parents session. The session was extremely well delivered by a highly qualified and experienced professional, who guided parents and carers through essential first aid knowledge and practical demonstrations. It was lovely to see some of our Acre Hall parents and carers in attendance, engaging so positively and asking thoughtful questions throughout.
The course covered key life-saving skills including how to carry out a primary survey (DRABC), respond in an emergency, manage choking, perform CPR on babies and children, and deal with common childhood injuries. Parents had the opportunity to observe demonstrations and build confidence in understanding what to do in an emergency situation. Gaining this knowledge and confidence is incredibly important. In a real emergency, knowing how to act quickly and calmly can make a significant difference. Attending a 2.5–3 hour course like this helps parents to develop the confidence to respond effectively in an emergency; understand how to assess danger and check for breathing and circulation; learn how to perform CPR and manage choking in babies and children; recognise and respond to common childhood accidents and injuries, and feel more reassured and prepared at home and in the community
Following today’s successful event, we are keen to organise a similar session here at Acre Hall, possibly one afternoon after school, to make it more accessible for working parents. We believe that providing opportunities like this strengthens our school community and supports the safety and wellbeing of our children beyond the classroom. We will keep you informed.
